Exploring AI as a Creative Tool

I’ve been integrating AI into my creative process as a way to move faster without sacrificing quality. Whether I’m using ChatGPT to spark early ideas or jumpstart copy, I always treat it as a first draft. My years of experience as a Creative Director allow me to edit, reshape, and elevate the output to match the tone, taste, and strategic nuance that great work demands.

On the visual side, I’ve used Midjourney to create both photorealistic imagery and branded graphics for a startup—helping the team move quickly while still achieving a polished look. For me, AI isn’t a shortcut to avoid the work—it’s a tool that lets me focus more time on what matters most: refining the vision, strengthening the storytelling, and pushing creative to the highest level.

Below are some examples of how I've utilized AI tools.

I had a pretty basic website before that got the job done, organizing my previous work for prospective clients (shown above).

Upon asking ChatGPT to look through my site and provide a new logo and thumbnail for the YouTube x ROSÉ & Bruno Mars project page, I was inspired to give my site a quick makeover.

Using Midjourney (via Discord), I was able to help a startup pull together an early deck full of photorealistic images and a branded bitcoin style graphic to convey their mission.

I'll admit, I've mostly only gotten the chance to play around with imaging in AI for fun so far, as I've been in agency settings where AI was frowned upon. But I am learning when it can and can't be used to create something original.

But as for copy and ideation, it has been a wonderful tool. I'll often finish my normal creative process and then have AI brush through my ideas to find possible enhancements to what I've come up with or add similar concepts to beef up a campaign.

It's also been great for providing a starting point for projects like SEO-friendly blogs, user manuals, and...cover letters. ;) I'm excited about where AI can take creative, yet confident that our imaginations and uniqueness will not be replaced any time soon.
